Shedjwool

by Anne

The schedule comes out today!

Hooray!

I'm trying to make this more exciting than it really is!!

There isn't really much about the schedule that isn't to be expected. We know how many times we'll play each team, with the exception of the three at large games.

Mostly I'm looking for who is coming to HSBC Arena and when. Also, MK and I have kicked around the idea of going to Chicago for a game, and I've been thinking about heading to Pittsburgh for a game maybe.

The DRAMA going down in Chicago this off-season has been fantastic and I can't wait to see the fall-out next year when Kaner, Tazer and Keith(er?) are all going to be coming down the Free Agent conveyor belt.

Speaking of Kaner, MK's boyfriend Cory came back from Chicago and brought me a Kane t-shirt. Not being the world's biggest Blackhawks fan, I suppose if I had to choose a 'Hawk to support individually it would be Kaner.

3 1/2 hours til the schedule!

Woooooooooo.

Buffalove

by Anne

On Sunday I went to the Allentown Art Festival with Jimmy. My entire purpose for going was to buy this shirt:

It really does.
Especially down by the Arena when they're putting sugar on the cereal
Mmmmm

I don't think its much of a secret that I'm a huge fan of the City of Buffalo and Western New York in general. Therefore, I had no problem trucking down to Allentown and then weaving my way through the throngs of people to track down this tiny stand way off the beaten path.

Support your local businesses!

BorninBuffalo.net

They, of course, have at least one hockey t-shirt on there, because, let's face it, Buffalo is a hockey town. Maybe one day it'll be a football town again.

We ate the largest order of curly fries I've ever seen, drank some tasty lemonade and tried to go to the Wilcox Mansion/Teddy Roosevelt Historical Site but the house is closed until next week. Boo. They have a nice exhibit about the Pan-Am exposition and for our $2 we got a coupon for $2 off admission to the mansion itself when it opens back up next week. I went there a few times when I was a kid and I think its pretty neat to show the youth of WNY that our city and region have some historical significance, as sad as a Presidential assassination is.

107 days til the season starts.

I just discovered they have it in yellow for toddlers:

Love it.
Love my city.

Perez Hilton Discusses the Sabres

by Anne

Sort of.

It must be a slow news day at Perez and he must be behind the times because its been fairly common knowledge in Buffalo for months that B. Tom Golly* is dating Monica Seles. Anyway, Perez discussed it on his site tonight and after two glasses of wine, I found it hysterical at the time.

Here's the link.

Good times. The Sabres have been mentioned twice now on Perez, once when Ruutu made a snack out of Petey and this time. Sweet. We just need a celeb girlfriend and we'll be all set.

*B. Thomas Golisano for those who have never been inside my wine-soaked head and don't know my nicknames

Hockey is Bad for My Health

by Anne

I have documented proof that intense Stanley Cup Finals games are bad for my health.

Just as a test, before the game I took my pulse and BP (cuz my mom as a machine that can do it at the push of a button). Before it was 113/67 pulse 61. All low to normal readings. At the end of the game it was 139/88, pulse 96. Goodness gracious.

Pens win Game 6 by a score of 2-1!!

Lookityou!
Jordan gobbled up his own rebound on a 2 on 1 with Cookie Monster and opened the scoring!

Yay!!!

GRONK RAWR!

Rob Scuderi was the hero of the game, by far, literally diving into the play and preventing the puck from going into a wide open net not once but twice. He even made a nifty kick save in the game's dying seconds to preserve the win for his team. Tyler Kennedy scored about 5 minutes into the third and upped the score to 2-0. Kris Draper added his first point of the series and brought the Wings within one but that's as close as they got, thanks mostly to Rob Scuderi's heroics.

I'll be calling in sick to work on Friday.

As crazed as this series has made me, this is nothing compared to what it would be like if this were the Sabres. I would literally be unable to sleep or function normally until Friday. Godspeed, diehard Pittsburghers. I feel for you. Try to make it to Friday in one piece.

Game 7.

LET'S GO PENS!!!!!!!!!

Sidenote: I'm watching Trent Edwards' press conference and he's wearing a Sabres t-shirt. Awww. Feel the city unity. Also, the Bisons are horrendous. Ed Kilgore can't get over it on Channel 2.

Watching Saturday's Game With Your Favorite Buffalo Bloggers

by Anne

So a bunch of we humble (translation: totally badass) bloggers will be getting together on Saturday the 10th to watch the Sabres play the Red Wings at 7:00.

There will be several Buffalo sports blogosphere superstars in attendance. Really, its like our All-Star Game. Maybe there might be a Superskills competition. Fastest typer? Who can photoshop Lindy Ruff's head onto the Incredible Hulk's body the fastest? Best nickname for Matt Ellis? Who can create a new Tim Connolly is always hurt joke? and the like.

We'll be at Casa di Pizza at the corner of Elmwood and Hodge for pizza and beverages. Fun shall be had by all. For those who like "specificity" the official address is 477 Elmwood Ave in Buffalo.

I'm afraid the game might be awful if the pre-season game was any indication so this way we can be distracted by pizza, alcohol and conversation if the game is too painful to endure. If by some miracle we win, think of all the jubliant celebration of overly-invested and slightly intoxicated sports bloggers.

Hope to see y'all there!

That Man Knows His City

by Anne

Lindy Ruff was quoted today as saying:

"The Bills did their part to get the curse away from the city so now we have to do our part on Wednesday night,” Ruff said of Buffalo’s 54-31 victory against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Its clear to anyone with internet access and a brain that the City of Buffalo has hit a rough patch these last few weeks in terms of the success of our teams. We all feel it. Whether football or hockey is your National league sport of choice in Buffalo, (and let's face it, most people love them both equally) we still feel each other's pain. Lindy's been a part of this city in one way or another for almost 30 years so he knows the way the fans think, he knows the right thing to say to remind us that he's invested in this City.

Aw, Lindy. You old so and so.

He's such a stud.

OK ITS ALL A FACADE! ITS ALL LIES! I CAN'T DO IT ANYMORE!!

by Anne

I CAN'T PRETEND I DON'T CARE!!! I DO CARE! I. CARE. SO. MUCH.

I'm a girl, I'm emotional, I cannot help but feel emotionally invested and somewhat protective of our boys in blue and gold. I can whine about them all I want, because I know that its coming from the heart, but SO HELP ME, if an outside analyst starts talkin' smack, I am QUICK to defend.

Ok, these last few weeks have been really tough as a Sabres fan. I think we are all aware of that. We all feel this frustration. I've tried going for the "EFF YOU, SABRES!" angle, but to no avail. I thought that if I acted like I didn't care it would be easier to take but its just not.

The reason this is all coming out now is because I read Ryan Miller's recently updated blog and I was reminded that "oh yeah, they don't like losing either." and that, oh yeah "I totally love Ryan Miller and this team will be ok".

Look, as much as I enjoy Pittsburgh and Vancouver, there is no team that I could ever throw as much of my heart and soul behind as the Buffalo Sabres. They're my team from my city and someday this painful losing streak will all be a distant, unpleasant memory and we'll be ok. We will. I promise. Remember 2002? That was a time when we almost lost the TEAM. This ain't nothing. They'll turn it around. It'll be ok. The Bills lost like 4 games in a row, turned around and beat the snot out of a crappy team that they HAD to beat. They needed that game for confidence and they got it and gave us all a little something to smile about. It'll get better.

I feel this picture is appropriate for most situations and I love it.
and him.
PIE!!! IT'S GONNA BE OK!

Sissy's working his hardest to climb out of this hole.
PULL, SISSY! PULL!

GOOSE! YOU KNOW WHAT ITS TIME FOR:

YER DAMN RIGHT, PAUL GAUSTAD.
DAMN.
RIGHT.
JUST DON'T LOOK AT THE FISH BEHIND YOU AND IT'LL BE OK

LET'S GO BUFF-A-LO!

AHHHHH CRAIG RIVET ILU

by Anne

I KNEW HE'D COME AROUND!! I KNEW IT!

Initially, Rivet was not keen on the idea of coming to the Sabres. After being traded to the Sharks in 2007, the defenseman thought he had found a permanent home in San Jose. Learning he had been dealt to Buffalo on July 4, the 34-year-old was disgruntled having to move his family again.

“But it wasn’t anything to do with Buffalo,” Rivet said. “We’ve put all that behind us now. My family, and myself, we’re extremely happy to be part of this organization. We’re very settled. I think Buffalo gets a bad rap and once you get here you realize how great this city is.

Rivet has previously served as an alternate captain for San Jose as well as the Montreal Canadiens. The Sabres take on The Habs Friday night at HSBC Arena in the season opener.

“We’re going to be playing one of the best teams in the league in our very first game,” Rivet said of his former team. “It’s going to be great to see where we stand against the best. I think we’re right there.

“Its giving me chills thinking about it already.”

It gives ME chills to think about how you've swooped into Buffalo and made me all topsy turvy this off-season, Rosie. You take away my Big Bear (no love) and then complain a little (even less love) and then you won't smile (ugh) BUT then you get here and stand up for Millsy (much love) beat up that d-bag Ryan Hollweg (mad love) and then become our Captain (more love) because all of the boys I've spent so much time analyzing and writing about VOTED you captain (SO MUCH LOVE), which is, like the best thing ever, am I right?!!!1!

shut UP!
Is that a SMILE??!?!

Ok, not quite, but I'll take it!!!!!

All you naysayers can kick it elementary school style and go fly a kite. I'm excited. I couldn't believe it was Stu Barnes who last had the C on a permanent basis in 2003. That would've been my guess but it just seemed too long ago.
