Sabres Win! Pirates Win! The EARTH Wins!

by Anne

Why does the Earth win? Because when my teams are doing well, I'm convinced it means that the Earth is functioning as it should.

This afternoon I said to my Mom "I'm not glad Pominville and Roy haven't been scoring lately." and WOOOOOO!!! Vanek! Vanek! PIE! ROYZIE! POMMMMERRRRR!!! Kaleta and Paille were so unexpectedly slick on PieYAY's goal!!!

MILLSY WITH THE SHUTOUT! YAY! YAY! YAY! Timmy got a point in his first game! Yay!

Who-?

There he is again, who IS that guy?

Bahahahahahahhahahahahah Adam Mair
hahahahha what an EXCELLENT face

The Pirates won their second game in a row against the Norfolk Admirals 5-3! Kennedy, Darche and Mancari each had a goal and 2 assists!! Somehow Gerbe had 0 points and was -3 ... uhhhhh... that's ok Nate, we can't all have great nights and continue our point scoring streak, RIGHT, TK?!?!!!!

WCB Watch

Ethan Moreau scored 2 goals to end Edmonton's 5 game losing streak!!! Yay!!!

Work it, Grrrrrl

YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG!

Marty Turco is fired as my Dallas WCB. I can't handle watching him give up 5 goals over and over and over again. Should I pick Fabian Brunnstrom or I might pick Jere Lehtinen because he was born in "Espoo"??

Sharpie scored in Chicago's shootout victory over Columbus in which Nasher had an assists and NINE shots on goal, adding to Columbus' 51 total shots on goal. Huet seemed to face a lot of shots but not too many of them were really worth much.

J.P. had an assist in Nashville's 3-2 shootout win over Florida!!

JKee had 0 points in a 6-3 loss to the Pens, but YAY Pens!! They needed a road win, they've been struggling lately. Looks like Sid's "undisclosed" injury isn't that serious because he had 2 points (0+2) on the night and over 22 minutes of ice time.

ONo didn't play in the Wild's match up with the Coyotes and Peter Mueller was underwhelming.

Olli Jokinen's face reads: "Eh, I suppose you'll do for a hug."

Speaking of Olli Jokinen, doesn't this picture, one of a series of pictures featured on Coyotes.com, make you want to be a 'Yotes fan?

If you buy season tickets, you can ALL be as cool as Olli Jokinen

WHERE DO I GET THOSE TICKETS?!?!

Iggy registered 0 points in the Flames win over the Kings BUT he did win all 3 faceoffs he took. Kings' WCB Matt Greene also did not appear on the score sheet as per usual. but had a couple of hits and at least 1 blocked shot. In an interesting change, or rather, lack of a change, the Kings two goals were scored by the same person. Also the same person got both primary assists and another player got both secondary assists. This is made even more unique in that one was on the power play and one was not.

LOOK! THEY'RE IN A PICTURE TOGETHER!!
MY 2 TOP WESTERN FAVORITES!!
and Todd Bertuzzi....
BUT LOOKIT IGGY AND GREENER!!!

Ok, Iggs, we need to talk.
The game is easier to play when your knees are not touching the ice.
Food for thought.
Chew on it, let me know what you think.

Bills play tomorrow!! Here's hoping these winning vibes carry over to football!!

Whoa, Ok I've Calmed Down... BUT JUST A LITTLE

by Anne

That game went from zero to 60 in 4 minutes. That's terrible for a car but AWESOME for a hockey game.

CAN YOU IMAGINE HOW AWFUL THE FLIGHT TO COLORADO WOULD'VE BEEN IF WE'D LOST 3-2, THEREBY MAKING RYAN MILLER'S "GOAL" THE GAME WINNER? WHAT A TENSE PLANE. I'm glad he can laugh about it. Every goalie has something like that happen to him at some point in his career, thankfully it wasn't a crucial or pivitol game and we won anyway, so he can laugh about it:

"That was about the most embarrassing thing I've ever done in my life," Miller said. "I took my eye off it to see where I could put it, and when I looked back the puck wasn't where I thought it would be. So I tried to backhand it, and a guy kind of hit my stick.

"I figured if I played long enough I'd make the blooper reel."

Ha. Its ok, Ryan, we still love you. We know you're just trying to make sure your teammates are working their absolute hardest. Thanks for thinking of the team, Ryan.*fist bump*.

That fake Stafford did and then shifting to the backhand was just cruel. That was just mean, and SWEEEEEET. :) As S(h)ara texted me, the brontosaurus is TOTALLY trying to win me back, and it just might work, Drew, it just might work.

Derek's gotten over the first goal hump, now we need Max and Danny to net one each and then its on to the injured boys once they come back to us.

Paetsch did well, he's not Craig Rivet, but that initial shot from the blue line set up Adam Mair beautifully. He had 1 point (0+1) and 2 hits in roughly 14 and a half minutes of ice time. Not bad, Patches, not bad. Its good to know we have depth we can rely on, even if its only been one game.

It's really great that we've rallied to overcome 2 goal deficits three times in a row, but not getting those 2 goal deficits would be even sweeter. IT WAS STILL AWESOME THOUGH.

Matt Ellis, well DONE on the faceoffs, sir, WELL DONE. 83%, winning 5 of 6? I'll take it. Thanks for being good at those! Mairsy, 60% is excellent as well. WOO!

Seeing Pommer as -1 with 0 pts makes me feel a little uneasy inside. Poor boy must be completely lost without Goose and Yoyo.

Who isn't in love with the Roysie-Staffy-Vanek line right now? 6 points among them last night: each player had a goal and an assist and a combined +/- of +7.

I'm pretty sure we won because my Wild WCB, Owen Nolan, is injured and will probably return to playing this weekend.

So, who got the pigeon? Royzie is my vote, for getting his first goal, the game winner and because I really want to know where he got that hat he was wearing in his interview with the goofy design on the front. Derek Roy probably rocks that hat post-game because he's vain, but I appreciate not having to watch sweat drip off of his ears. Thanks, Royzie!

In other Eastern Conference news: The Carolina Hurricanes were nursing a 1-0 lead through 2 periods until the Penguins remembered how to play hockey and had a 4 goal third period and won the game 4-1. The winner of this "Battle of the Staals": Jordan.

MOVING ON:

WCB Watch

Dallas at NYI

Marty Turco won a game!!!! Ok, well the Dallas Stars won a game, but Marty helped! He stopped 24 of 27 shots to give the Stars, and himself, a much needed win.

MY LOVE CAN MOVE MOUNTAINS AND CLOSE UP FIVE HOLES.

Also, what a night Mike Ribeiro had! First goal of the season and 4 assists. Impressive.

Yeeeehaw!

Calgary at Nashville

The Predators went up 3-1 after the 2nd. Things weren't looking good for Cap'n Jarome, but the Flames kept their wits about them and IGGY SCORED A HAT TRICK TO LIFT HIS TEAM TO A 5-3 VICTORY!!! He had 3 goals on 3 shots, haha, yay!!

YAY!!!

Dumont had 1 assist and was -2 for the evening. Alas. When my boys play each other, one must come up short. :(

Yay!!!

Edmonton at Colorado

Avs win 4-1 after Edmonton scored the inital PPG in the first period. Oilers WCB, Ethan Moreau had 6 shots on goal and 0 pts.

Avalanche WCB, JM Liles had 4 blocked shots and lead the team in ice time with 22:02. Woo! The Avs have now won 4 straight.

Washington at Phoenix

Peter Mueller scored his 3rd of the season, the game winner over Ovie and the Caps! WOOO!!

Hooray!!

Tomorrow night we face Ryan Miller's BFF, and my Avs WCB, JM Liles in Colorado. All 30 teams are playing on Saturday, therefore, the NHL is calling it "Super Saturday". We have to lose in regulation SOMETIME.

Caturday

by Anne

I've been taking care of my two cousins this weekend so I've been living the HIGH LIFE of child care.

S(h)ara and I went to MK's boyfriend's house to watch the game on his giant new HD Sony Bravia TV and it was pretty sweeeeeeeeeet.

On to the actual hockey:

TRUE TO FORM, the Colorado Avalanche (featuring WCB JM Liles) took on the Dallas Stars (featuring WCB no one) and won 5-4. Proving that MY LOVE MOVES MOUNTAINS.

Considering the 'Yotes haven't beaten the Habs since 1998, and still haven't, losing 4-1, perhaps I should take this opportunity to select my Coyotes WCB:

I was perusing the 'Yotes website roster when I discovered a man/boy I love plays for them. The only issue that I spend less time thinking about than the Phoenix Coyotes is whether or not Zac Efron will be able to find a successful vehicle for his "talent" once the High School Musical trilogy ends.

Therefore, I have selected Peter Mueller as my Phoenix Coyotes boyfriend because he's cute and he played at the World Championships with Team USA:

Woooooo!!

Back to the Sabres:

Things that make S(h)ara happy: Marian Hossa no longer plays for the Atlanta Thrashers
Things that make S(h)ara unhappy: That Ilya Kovalchuk still does
Things Anne isn't sure how she feels about: Colby Armstrong plays for the Thrashers.

Anyway, ugh.

We lost a game we didn't even really deserve to win, but we managed to get 1 point, so that's pretty sweet.

OY, PATTY LALIME PLAYED SO WELL!!! Gah, losing that game must have stung extra hard when he played so well!!! The skaters really fell down on the job and let A LOT of shots through. Waaayyyyyy too much of that first period was spent in our own end. WAY TOO MUCH. We managed to battle back when I really thought it was over and that DARN DIRTY FOOL THOMAS VANEK SCORED AGAIN.

There were lots of ups and downs for that game. It really felt like last season for most of that game and it was extremely unpleasant. Ups obviously included Patty Lalime's play, the perfect PK and Staffy's shoot out goal. The Downs need not be mentioned any further.

Let's stop talking about the Sabres of now and talk about the Sabres yet to come:

On Wednesday, the Portland Pirates had a team-building day where they went to the University of Maine (or something) to do some Girl Scout Camp style team building exercises.

There's something totally great about Mike Weber hoisting his coach over the wall in this picture.
Awww, Doof, I miss you!!!

Gerbe scored twice in a 3-2 Portland Pirates victory over the Springfield Falcons tonight!! Yay!!!

I enjoy this quote from the Maine Hockey Blog live blog of the game:

"8:44pm — Gerbe is one sick dude… Falls to the ice and still managed to get the puck on the stick of Mark Mancari for a good one-on-one scoring chance. This is a very special player indeed and will be a star in the NHL. Just to add, offensively he doesn’t belong in this league, but he does have work to do on his back checking and defensive play."

I'm super tired and have children to wrangle. Boooooooooo. We still got a point, had a 100% PK and only allowed 2 goals. Not too bad.
