Its Too Sunny to Watch Hockey

by Anne

Not only do I have to work tonight and will miss game 2 between the Penguins and the Butter Snaps, I will also be working on the most beautiful day of the year thusfar in sweet, sunny Buffalo.

Its a perfect late spring day here in the B-lo. The kind of day that makes you forget about January because its worth it for days like today.

Earlier today I was attempting to find an old interview with the Gronk on YouTube. When I typed in "Jordan Staal" it said "Also try: Ryan Getzlaf." Um, alright, thanks, I will? Good to know YouTube's search engine knows which hockey players play for which teams and are also related. "Also try: Marc/Eric/Jared Staal" would've been much more expected than "Ryan Getzlaf." If that is his real name.

Also, I miss the Sabrez.

Scott Cullen wrote his off-season homework report for the Sabres and, for the most part, it was all stuff that Sabres fans already know, but if you aren't a fan, you'd find interesting. Except for the part where he suggested Chris Neil might be a good fit. If you remove the past and personality from Chris Neil then, yes, Mr. Cullen is probably correct. However since Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is still just a movie, that can't happen. The awkward tension between Neil and Adam Mair would be pay-per-view worthy, though. Do we need another agitator? It doesn't seem to have made a huge impact on Ottawa, why would we bring him here? If we were to go out and get an agitator, I'd take Steve Ott over Chris Neil any day of the week.

Also, I may dislike Phil Kessel immensely but I also feel for the guy. He's had successful surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff and labrum in his shoulder which will require a full six month recovery. For those keeping track, the 2009-2010 season starts in just about 4 1/2 months, meaning if Phil stays on track to recovery, he'll miss at least the first month and a half of the season. That's definitely tough luck for Boston. Do they go out and find a comparable player only to trade that player or Kessel when he's healthy? Where are you going to find a comparable player that's going to be cheap and/or disposable. 30+ goal scorers ain't cheap, kids. The upside is that Yick is only 21 so he should be able to make a quick comeback. He only missed eleven games when recovering from cancer. This will be tough for him, but I'm pretty sure nothing seems insurmountable when you overcome cancer at 19.

So Erik Cole is most likely back in for tonight, Ruutu did not skate and will be a game-time decision. It'd be pretty super if the Pens could bring a 2-0 series lead into Carolina since those Butter Snaps are a little cocky about being down 1-0 in a series which seems like an odd thing to be proud of. "Yeah we suck at first but then LOOK OUT!" Imagine if that was someone's pick up line at a bar? I don't think I'd give him my phone number.

Let's Go Pens!

Some heroics tonight would be grand.

Woo.

  1. Game 2 is going to be very crucial. I want to see the 'Canes go down SOOOO BAD.

I kind of miss working at Mass General and seeing all the Bruins getting surgery and having babies. Trust me, A LOT of them lie about what injuries they have. That being said I hope Kessel has a speedy recovery, and that he doesn't rush to get back to the Bruins... if he comes back to the Bruins. Bah bah bahhhhhhhh.

We're also going to miss David Krejci whom I believe has a torn labrum in his hip. I think the recovery timeline is the same, but I imagine it being more difficult. Someone needs to stop these labrums from tearing.

  2. Please tell me there was someone standing down the aisle from you looking at you like you've lost your mind when you were taking that picture. Or maybe that only happens to me....
