In an announcement that has shocked exactly NO ONE. The Portland Pirates officially became the Buffalo Sabres' AHL affiliate this afternoon.

This pirate is not nearly slugg-y enough, let's work on that

But the Pirates' logo does have a Bandits feel to it, so I can get behind it:

Shocking, I know. It's rare that the one and only rumor really circulating was actually the truth. After a while it becomes more a leaked bit of information than a rumor.

Anywho, I hope that the Pirates will play the Amerks sometime when I can go and we'll get to see some of our prospects who don't make the team up in our neck of the woods sometime soon.

We've got so much more room now for players in Portland than we did in Roch, it's so nice. Plenty of room to develop young players. Wooo!

It's such a shock to my system that all of the news coming out of HSBC Arena these last few months has been positive.

Ok, the Kalinin thing is debateable. No, he didn't play with passion, he didn't live up to his 18th pick potential, but he's been around a long time, it'll be (kind of) sad to see him go. However, I will not be shielding my eyes and plugging my ears everytime I see him in a different sweater. I think I'll be able to cope.
